|Lady Cats win third tournament of year|

March 23, 2006 - GREENVILLE - Facing three other district schools in the final non-district tournament of the golf season, the SSHS Lady Cats looked ready Wednesday to defend their 12-4A title.
The Lady Cats won their third tournament of the year as they fired a 381 to take the championship of the Greenville Spring Invitational played at Wright Park Golf Course.
Sulphur Springs edged out North Lamar (388), who is expected to once again give the Lady Cats the most competition at the District 12-4A tournament, which starts on Monday. Paris finished fourth in the team standings with a 433 and Greenville was fifth at 485.
The 12-4A tournament will be played in three rounds, with the first 18 holes on Monday at Paris Golf and Country Club. The Lady Cats will return to Wright Park on April 6 for the second round, then the final round will be April 10 at New Boston.
On Wednesday, junior Whitney McDaniel fired an 81, which matched her best varsity round ever, to finish as the second-place medalist behind Mount Pleasant's Katy Webster who shot a 75.
SSHS freshman Britney Cheatham carded a 98, her best round this year, to finish tied for eighth, and junior Kylie Littlefield was 10th with a 100. Rounding out the SSHS scoring was Cherish Bolton with a 102 and Jessica Anderson with a 114.
Playing in cold, blustery weather, the Lady Cats nonetheless cut their score by 22 strokes from the season-high 403 they shot last week. Sulphur Springs has now won three of its five tournaments this year.
