|North Hopkins wins team title at Salt Relays|

March 18, 2006 - GRAND SALINE - North Hopkins junior Ebbonye Johnson won four gold medals and Como-Pickton sophomore Bethanie Stinson earned two to lead their teams at the Salt Relays on Thursday.
North Hopkins won the team title with 128 points as Johnson scored 46 points herself by winning the long jump, high jump, 200-meter dash, 400 and getting third in the 100.
Stinson took first in the 3,200-meter run and the 1,600-meter run. In both instances, three other Hopkins County girls also placed. Also winning gold at the meet was North Hopkins shot putter Katy Williams and the NH 1,600-meter relay team, and C-P pole vaulter Garrett.
The most interesting races for county participants were likely the distance races, where Stinson finished ahead of North Hopkins' strong contingent.
In the 3,200, Stinson won in 12 minutes flat. Behind her came NH junior Sabra Thomas in second (12:21), junior Jessi Mannis in fourth (12:46) and senior Rosa Fuentes in fifth (13:22).
In the 1,600, Stinson won in a time of 5:34.40, followed by Thomas in second 95:37.35), Mannis in fourth (5:50.21) and Saltillo's Jessica Gilbreath in fifth (6:01.57).
Two other Saltillo girls also placed well. Winter Stevens was second in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 55.64, and Chloe Roberts placed second in the triple jump with an effort of 31-0, and fifth in the high jump at 4-6.
Johnson cleared 5-6, matching her personal best, to win the high jump. She also long jumped 16-1, ran the 400 in 63.54, the 200 in 26.99, and the 100 in 13.88.
In the shot put, Williams took first place with a throw of 39-1 1/2, her best of the season, and teammate Megan Lehr was third at 32-2.
In the 800, North Hopkins placed three girls: Fuentes was third in 2:42.48, sophomore Cayla Newkirk was fourth in 2:46.50, and Thomas was sixth in 2:50.69.
