Sulphur Springs goes 2-1 at Arlington Spring Break Classic

March 16, 2006 - ARLINGTON - The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats won a pair of games and tied another to win Pool D of the Arlington Spring Break Classic on Wednesday.

Sulphur Springs beat Mesquite Horn, 4-3, in the morning game, came back to down Granbury, 8-1, in the early afternoon contest, then tied Kennedale, 3-3. Horn is a 5A school, and Kennedale is ranked No. 18 in Class 3A.

Statistics from the games were not immediately available.

The Lady Cats have today and tomorrow off as the other pool games are played in the 32-team tournament played at Walker Park. They will return on Saturday for bracket play.

Sulphur Springs is slated to play again at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Platinum Division of the bracket, where they will face the winner of Pool E which includes Garland Sachse, Denton Guyer, Lubbock Coronado and Red Oak.

The wins also boosted the Lady Cats' overall record above .500. They are now 7-6-1 for the season.

Following the Arlington tournament, which is their final tourney of the year, they will host Mount Pleasant in District 12-4A action on Tuesday.

Mount Pleasant (13-6 overall) joins Texas High (10-2) and Paris (5-7) atop the district standings at 1-0 after the opening round games on Friday. Mount Pleasant beat North Lamar, 1-0, while Texas High pitcher Kelsey Harrington threw a perfect game in the Lady Tigers' 9-0 victory over Greenville.
