Turner verbally commits to SMU

July 15, 2006 - Logan Turner, who set Sulphur Springs school passing records the last two years before transferring to Springtown High School, has orally committed to play football for SMU.

Turner will be a senior at Springtown in the fall.

Turner holds the SSHS career passing records with 4,473 yards, completing 357 passes on 670 attempts with 38 touchdowns during his sophomore and juniors seasons. He also holds the school's single season record with 183 completions on 344 attempts for 20 touchdowns his junior year when he earned District 12-4A Tri-MVP honors.

Turner transferred to Class 4A Springtown in the spring when his father, coach Brad Turner, accepted the head coaching position there.

Turner had also considered TCU, Memphis, Iowa, Northwestern and Arkansas State.

Oral commitments are nonbinding. The first day a recruit in the Class of 2007 can sign a national letter of intent is Feb. 7, 2007.
