Wildcats unbeaten in Dixie All-Star tournament
From Staff Reports

July 5, 2006 - HONEY GROVE - The Sulphur Springs National Wildcats received a solid effort from a trio of pitchers in the second game of their 9-and-under All-Star tournament Monday, keeping them unbeaten going into tonight's game.

The Wildcats, playing in the District 5 Dixie tournament, defeated Paris National, 5-1, on Monday behind a three-hit, one-walk performance from the pitching trio of Hunter Coleman, Cain Cody and Kade Hudgins.

Sulphur Springs will play again at 8 p.m. today in Honey Grove against Paris Continental. The Wildcats are the only team out of the remaining four without a loss. Paris American and Paris National - the first two victims of the Wildcats - will play at 6 p.m. today in an elimination game.

If the Wildcats beat Paris Continental tonight, they will advance to the district championship game at 7 p.m. Thursday. All games are in Honey Grove.

On Monday, the game between Sulphur Springs and Paris National turned into a pitching duel, with Paris giving up just two hits but wild pitches proved the Continentals' undoing.

In the first inning, Sulphur Springs' C.J. Stephens led off with a single and later scored on a fielder's choice by Hunter Coleman as the Wildcats took an early lead.

In the second inning, Tyler Williams drew a walk and went around the basepaths scoring on a wild pitch. Stephens then had the Wildcats' only other hit with a single down the third base line, and he later scored on a wild pitch.

The Wildcats scored twice more in the fourth inning when Will Sant and Williams were both hit by back-to-back pitches. They each advanced a base on a wild pitch. Ben Brooks then drove in Sant with a fielder's choice grounder to first base, and three pitches later, Williams came home on another wild pitch to put the Wildcats up, 5-1.
