Wildcats tennis falls in first meet of year against Wills Point
From Staff Reports

Jan. 27, 2006 - WILLS POINT - Seeing their first competitive tennis action of the spring season, the Sulphur Springs Wildcats were edged by Wills Point, 6-4, on Tuesday.

The girls doubles teams of Aly Jackson/Lauren Longino and Morgan McCormack/Crystal Figueroa were both victorious for SSHS, along with Jordan Horne and the boys doubles team of Kyle Williams and Cameron Mitchell.

"I was expecting some rustiness going in because we had not had a lot of match play, especially in the doubles," said SSHS head coach Susan Reynolds. "The girls doubles did a great job due to their experience playing together, but the boys are working on new partners and it will take time for them to get the communication down.

"Our timing was a little off, but overall I was impressed especially this being our first outing."

The teams of Jackson/Longino and McCormack/Figueroa both won in straight sets, as did Horne. Williams/Mitchell were victorious in a lengthy tiebreaker.

"Wills Point is a tough team, and we always have close matches with them," Reynolds explained. "We will work on fine-tuning some things, and I believe we'll have the kinks straightened out and make a strong showing against Mount Pleasant."

The Wildcat tennis squad will travel to Mount Pleasant next Thursday after school.
