Ladycats soccer loses to Texas High, 4-0
From Staff Reports

Feb. 28, 2006 - TEXARKANA - The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats had a tough ride home Monday night following a 4-0 loss to the Texas High Lady Tigers during District 13-4A play.

"I thought Gayle Grand-Lienard, Robin Grafton and Morgan Baima played well for us during the game, and they were my three forwards," said SSHS coach J.J. Williams.

The Lady Cats were playing without freshman Bonnie Grafton, who injured her shoulder while scoring a goal in Friday's loss to Paris.

With the loss, Sulphur Springs is now in third place in the district at 3-2 and will have a rematch with Texas High (4-1 in second place) in the regular season finale at 11 a.m. March 18 at Gerald Prim Stadium. That game will be Senior Night for the Lady Cats.

The Lady Cats (8-9-3) return home against North Lamar (1-3-0-1) to open the second half of district play Saturday at 1 p.m., following junior varsity action at 11 a.m.

The Lady Cats defeated North Lamar 1-0 on a goal by Grand-Lienard off of a assist from Bonnie Grafton in the final 1:15 of the match in their first game against NLHS.

"We need to get back on the scoring track and we need to get to 4-2 in district play instead of 3-3 on Saturday at home," the coach said.

Paris leads the district with a 5-0 mark.
