Lady Cats beat Mount Pleasant, 8-1, at Prim Stadium

Feb. 22, 2006 - Postponing Saturday's rained-out soccer match until Tuesday did just one thing for the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats - delayed their victory.

Sulphur Springs got the second hat trick of the year from junior Gayle Grand-Lienard, two goals from Morgan Baima and a goal each from the Grafton sisters as the Lady Cats put up an 8-1 victory over Mount Pleasant at Gerald Prim Stadium.

With the win, the Lady Cats stayed atop the District 13-4A standings with a 3-0 record (8-7-3 overall). Paris was 2-0 going into last night's game against Texas High. Mount Pleasant dropped to 1-2.

Five different players scored for Sulphur Springs. In addition to the multi-goal games for Grand-Lienard and Baima, Robin and Bonnie Grafton each scored on goal, as did Amanda Stoutenberg.

Defensively, head coach J.J. Williams said the Lady Cats performed well.

"It was a good defensive effort by the whole team," he said.The Lady Cats face a showdown with Paris on Friday at Prim Stadium. The JV game is set to start at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity to follow at 7 p.m.
