Edgewood wants back in Como-Pickton district
From Staff Reports

Feb. 18, 2006 - The UIL will hear an appeal by Edgewood on Monday to move back into the district with Como-Pickton, Alba-Golden and other East Texas schools.

Under the new district assignments released Feb. 2 by the University Interscholastic League, Edgewood will be in District 12-2A along with teams ranging in location from Lone Oak to Oak Cliff and Irving.

Instead, Edgewood wants back in District 16-2A with Alba-Golden, Como-Pickton, Grand Saline, Hawkins, Quitman and Winnsboro.

For the next two years, Edgewood was placed in a district with Caddo Mills, Dallas Life Oak Cliff, Lone Oak, Palmer, and Scurry-Rosser for all sports, plus Dallas Faith Family and Irving North Hills for basketball.

The UIL's District Assignment Appeals Committee will convene at 9 a.m.  Monday in Austin to hear nine reclassification and realignment appeals, including Edgewood's. After the UIL released its biennial reclassification and realignment data on Feb. 2, all schools in the state were given the opportunity to appeal their assignments.

Appeals could only be made on the amount of travel by schools.

Other schools scheduled to appeal district assignments include:

Wylie from 9-5A  to 10-5A; Keller out of 6-4A; Del Rio from 28-5A to 29-5A; District 21-2A from Region 3  to Region 2; Charlotte from 31-1A to 28-1A; Chester from 23-1A to 28-1A; Leonard from Leonard from 13-2A to 14-2A; and Dallas A+ Academy from Basketball 14-1A Div. I to Basketball 13-1A Div. I.

When all appeals have been made, the Assignment Appeals Committee will approve final assignments.

This is the second time Como-Pickton's district has been involved in an appeal. Two years ago, the district number was changed from 16-2A to 17-2A, moving the district from Region 2 to Region 3.
