Dec. 28, 2006 - COMO - After four seasons as athletic director and head football coach at Como-Pickton High School, Joe Ryzman was reassigned last week within the district to become the new assistant secondary principal.

The reassignment was made public in a letter to parents, students and community members by CPISD superintendent Bryan Neal on Dec. 20. Ryzman will be under the supervision of Jeanne Lay, the new secondary principal.

Ryzman will take his new position on Jan. 2 when the school district returns from Christmas break.

He went 12-29 during his four-year tenure at Como-Pickton and his 2004 team made the playoffs with an 8-3 record as the district's third-place team. The Eagles lost in the bi-district round to Omaha Paul Pewitt 49-14 at Sam Parker Field in the Div. II playoffs. That was the only winning season for the Eagles during his fours as head coach.

Following that playoff season, the Eagles went 3-17 the past two years and finished 0-10 this season.

Ryzman will remain the powerlifting coach this spring, according to Neal, and then that position will be filled once the new athletic director is hired in late spring.

Neal said the position has already been posted for a new athletic director. He said the district hopes to have their new athletic director and head coach hired and working with the student athletes by April 1.

"We have already posted the position and if we have a candidate internally that we feel is the best candidate then we will consider him for the position," Neal said. "If we find someone outside of the district then we will consider them also."

Ryzman was previously head coach at Troup - where he went 24-11 in three seasons - and was an assistant coach at Troup, Wolfe City, Scurry-Rosser and Whitehouse.
