Wildcat tennis secures regional berth with win over Greenville
From Staff Reports

Sept. 14, 2005 - The Sulphur Springs Wildcats tennis team secured a regional berth Tuesday afternoon with a 11-0 shutout against district rival Greenville.

Tuesday's win guarantees a first or second place finish in District 14-4A for SSHS with only one district match left against Texas High Oct. 1 at Mount Pleasant to determine seedings between the two schools.

"I'm very excited for these kids to be going to regionals again this year after this win," SSHS coach Susan Reynolds said. "I told the kids after the match that this was what we wanted, but our ultimate goal is to go to regionals as first place finishers against Texas High, and that's what we're working for."

Blake Holly and Erich Hartin won both of their matches during the event on the boys' side while the only doubles team to play on the girls' side was Lauren Longino and Aly Jackson who took a 6-3, 7-5 win over Williams and Deets.

"Coach Johnson had a very-scaled down team with several of his players not showing up, but our kids played hard and I wish that everyone would have gotten to play," Reynolds said.

The tennis team returns for a non-district dual match against Wills Point and Van next Saturday. Regionals are scheduled for Oct. 28-29 at Southlake.
