Stinson leads Lady Eagles to regional qualification

Oct. 25, 2005 - LAKE TAWAKONI - The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles cross country team advanced to the regional meet in Humble with a third-place finish in the District 17-2A meet Monday at Thousand Trails Resort.

Bethanie Stinson led the way for Como-Pickton with a second-place finish in a clocking of 12 minutes, 22 seconds and teammate Alma Lara finished in seventh place in a time of 14:01. 

Samantha Jones finished in 11th place in a clocking of 14:33, Rebecca Humphrey was 25th in 15:31 and Cortney Thompson came in 34th in a time of 16:14.

The Lady Eagles finished behind district champion Grand Saline and Caddo Mills.

The Class 2A, Region III meet is scheduled for Nov. 5 at North Harris County College.

In the boys division, Tony Mercado was the lone representative for CPHS and finished the 3.1-mile course in a time of 19.37. He finished in 17th place.


Shelbi Wellman finished the two-mile course in a time of 15:03 to lead the Lady Eagles with a second place finish. Teammate Violet Perez finished in fifth place in 15:36 and both runners received top 10 medals for their performances.

The junior high boys team came in second place as three runners finished in the top 10: Jimmy Lara was fourth in 12:40, followed by Angel Mercado in sixth (13:21), and Hunter Cain in eighth place at 13:33.

Other finishers for the Eagles were Miguel Mejia in 12th place with a clocking of 14:48, Zack Michaelson in 15th place with a time of 15:47, John Ryzman in 17th place with a time of 16:28, and Julian Ramirez in 18th place with a clocking of 16:32.
