North Hopkins cross country wins Poteet Invitational

Oct. 18, 2005 - MESQUITE - The North Hopkins Lady Panthers won the Poteet Invitational Cross Country Meet on Saturday, with junior Sabra Thomas finishing in first place.

Thomas finished the two-mile course in a time of 12 minutes, 21 seconds, while teammates sophomore Jessi Mannis and senior Rosa Fuentes finished in second and third place, respectively, in the varsity girls 1A-3A bracket. Mannis had a clocking of 12:38 and Fuentes finished in 12:40.

Junior Ebbonye Johnson also finished in the top 10 with a clocking of 13:36 for eighth place, while Virginia Thomas finished the course in 11th place at 14:15, Cayla Newkirk finished in 14:21 in 13th place and Katy Williams was 14th in a time of 14:23.

The Lady Panthers also won the team standings with 25 points, while Mount Vernon finished second, and Commerce was third.

In the junior varsity girls race, Kara Mannis led the way for the Lady Panthers with a clocking of 14:32 to finish in 42nd place, while teammate Hannah Martel finished in 62nd place with a time of 14:48, Megan Lehr was 73rd, Evelina Sol was 122, and Ashley Deaton was 160th.

In the boys division, North Hopkins Raul Delgado finished the 3.1-mile course in fifth place with a time of 17:44, while teammate Jesus Delgado finished in seventh with a time of 18:03.

Pedro Gonzalez was 13th place for the Panthers with a time of 18:34, Roger Sancho was 18th in 19:26, Cory Johnson was 31st in 21:55, and Josh McPherson was 36th in 24:47.

The Panthers finished in fourth place in the team standings with 74 points, as Eustace and Mount Vernon were first and second place.
