Lady Panthers stay unbeaten in district with win over Yantis

Oct. 10, 2005 - BIRTHRIGHT - The North Hopkins Lady Panthers continued their unbeaten streak in District 19-A with a three-game victory over the Yantis Owls Friday.

North Hopkins (25-3, 5-0) won by scores of 25-18, 25-14, 25-15.

"I felt the girls played well," said NHHS coach Danna Lewis. "We cut down on a lot of errors that we have been having. Hopefully, the intensity they had Friday will carry over to the second round of district play."

Senior Katy Williams led North Hopkins with 12 kills, five blocks, six service points, one ace and one assist, while teammate Maegan Baxter had 11 points, three aces, 29 assists and one kill. 

Tashona Berry had seven kills, six points and one ace, Ebbonye Johnson had five kills, 11 points, one block and two aces, Holli Argenbright had five kills, two blocks and one assist, Sabra Thomas had six points, two kills and two assists, and Kaylee Cotten had seven points and one kill.

"Yantis had an outstanding game and they dug every ball that we set," Lewis said. "Yantis made my hitters work extra hard to put it away."

In junior varsity action, the North Hopkins junior varsity won in three games 25-16, 25-17, 19-25.

Hannah Martel had four kills, along with teammates Megan Lehr and Ashlie Deaton with four kills apiece, Kadee Melton had three kills, Jessi Mannis had three kills and 10 assists, and Leia Butler had two kills.
