Tennis team has tough outing in Kilgore
From Staff Reports

March 9, 2005 - KILGORE - The Sulphur Springs tennis team lost to Kilgore 8-2 Tuesday afternoon at Kilgore as Cody Moore and Cynthia Sanchez picked up the only wins for the team in singles competition.

"We just got outplayed mentally against Kilgore," SSHS tennis coach Susan Reynolds said. "We had several opportunities we couldn't capitalize on and our unforced errors really hurt us."

The tennis team will look to bounce back at the Longview tournament this weekend, but without the services of Moore and Ryan Thompson due to school obligations.

"We're having to adjust the boys' singles with Moore not doing it due to senior pictures and Thompson only playing Friday," the coach said. "The rest of the team will be seeing some tough competition, and I'm hoping we'll see a lot of action before going into spring break."

Reynolds said the team had opportunities to pull out wins in the doubles and singles but couldn't come through in the end.

"We had several close three-setters that could have gone either way in the boys doubles and a couple of tie-breakers we couldn't pull out in the singles," Reynolds said.

Below are the results from Tuesday's match (SSHS players listed first):

Boys singles - Cody Moore def. Jesse Dean 6-4, 6-4; Ryan Thompson lost to Chris Bashor 3-6, 7-5 (8-10 tie-breaker).

Boys doubles - Luke Panter/Brant Small lost to Broussard/Welch 2-6, 6-4, 2-6; Paul Pattberg/Landon McCaig lost to Hamm/Connor 6-2, 2-6, 2-6.
