North Hopkins softball lands 10 players on All-District 14-A softball team

June 1, 2005 - North Hopkins had two girls named as All-District 14-A softball superlatives and four others on the First Team, while Saltillo landed a pair of players on the Second Team.

The honorary squad was released this week after voting by the district's coaches.

North Hopkins junior catcher Maegan Baxter was tabbed the Defensive MVP of the district and teammate Ashley Wilson, a junior second baseman, was voted Co-Offensive MVP along with Rivercrest freshman Jessica Thompson.

Rivercrest, the district champion, had two other superlative players in Co-MVPs junior shortstop Miranda Campbell and sophomore pitcher Cortney Merchant. James Bowie freshman Ashley May was the district's Newcomer of the Year.

North Hopkins finished second in the district and it showed in the All-District balloting with four on the First Team, two more on the Second Team and two as Honorable Mention.

On the First Team were junior first baseman Katie Williams, senior shortstop Sara Weir, junior outfielder Elizabeth McPherson and senior pitcher Lacie Palmer.

Second Team members from NHHS were junior third baseman Ashley Hooten and sophomore outfielder Chancey Harber. On the Honorable Mention list were freshmen Cayla Newkirk and Jessi Mannis.

Saltillo had a pair of players off its young team make the Second Team list in senior catcher Kassie Tully and sophomore pitcher Chloe Roberts. Four freshmen were listed as Honorable Mention: Winter Stevens, Sara French, Jessica Sparks and Jessica Gilbreath.
