Area Basketball: Yantis Lady Owls win in double-overtime

Jan. 22, 2005 - Yantis took a pair of non-district victories from Dodd City on Friday, including a thrilling, double-overtime contest in the girls' game.


Yantis 66, Dodd City 65 (2OT)

DODD CITY - It took every second of two overtimes, but the Yantis Lady Owls finally put the finishing touches on a non-district upset of No. 14 Dodd City.

Yantis' Falon Honea made the second of two free throws with no time on the clock in the second overtime to provide the win. It was the second time this season the Lady Owls (14-9) have beaten Dodd City, and this time it was their homecoming.

Sarah Collins spearheaded Yantis' offense with 26 points, eight assists, eight rebounds six steals, while Honea added seven rebounds and five steals. Robbin Allen chipped in 15 points, and Jayna Bevill contributed seven rebounds.

Jennifer Burpo scored a team-high 25 points for Dodd City.

DODD CITY - Yantis senior Corey Elliott put up his 12th double-double of the year and Colby Ogle added a double-double of his own as the Owls ran over Dodd City in non-district action.

Elliott had 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Ogle added 16 points and 10 boards to go along with three assists and three steals. Patrick McKinney added 10 points and seven assists,while Jarrett Russell contributed nine points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Jeremy Hurley and David Gonyea added four assists each for the Owls (18-5 overall).

Dodd City's Blankenship scored a team-high 12 points.

Yantis outscored Dodd City in every quarter, including 20-5 in the third period.
