Lady Cats soccer shuts out WF Hirschi
From Staff Reports

Jan. 15, 2005 -- SHERMAN - The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats evened their season record at 1-1-1 with a 4-0 shutout of Wichita Falls Hirschi Friday evening in the Sherman tournament.

Ashley Petty, the district MVP last season, knocked in her first two goals of the year, and sophomore Gayle Grand-Lienard booted one goal and assisted on two others.

Senior Tess Bragg added a point on a free kick, while goal keeper Kayla Petty notched a shutout for the Lady Cats.

"The girls came out and played more physical than I've ever seen them play," said SSHS head coach J.J. Williams. "They're coming together as a team and it showed last night."

He also praised the defensive play of Lacy Lopez, who started her first game at left fullback.

"She came out and shut them down," Williams said.

The Lady Cats are scheduled to play again at 2:30 p.m. Saturday against Frisco Centennial on the Austin College field. If they beat Frisco by at least a 3-0 score, they will play again Saturday, but Williams was unsure of the time and opponent.
