Lady Cats winless in district play

Feb. 2, 2005 - PARIS - The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats tried to make up a 30-point deficit Tuesday night, but couldn't complete the comeback in falling to Paris, 65-53.

The win keeps playoff hopes alive for Paris (3-5, 8-18), who did not win a game last season, going 0-28. For Sulphur Springs, the loss drops its record to 0-8, 6-23.

North Lamar (21-5, 8-0) and Texas High (23-6, 7-1) have already clinched playoff berths, while Mount Pleasant (12-12, 4-4) hangs onto third place.

On Tuesday, Paris took a 20-6 lead into the second period. Sulphur Springs led briefly at 4-2, but after Paris' Andrea Wallace hit a 3-pointer three minutes deep into the period, SSHS never led again. Wallace came off the bench to lead her team with 12 points.

Paris maintained a comfortable lead in the second quarter, taking a 32-22 advantage into halftime.

Sulphur Springs, though, let the game get out of hand in the third period, getting outscored, 22-3, as Paris took a 30-point lead in the final period.

SSHS senior guard Terra Jackson, who finished with a game-high 22 points, scored 13 in the final quarter, including the final nine points in the game. The Lady Cats outscored Paris, 28-11, in the fourth quarter, but never cut the lead to single digits.

Sophomore post Cresha Hubbard added 12 points, while junior forward Whitney Jordan added eight.
