Trojans take down Alba-Golden

Aug. 27, 2005 - CUMBY - The Cumby Trojans opened up the season with a 27-7 win over the Alba-Golden Panthers at Trojan Field Friday night behind three touchdowns from B.T. Brown and four take-aways from their defense.

Cumby running back B.T. Brown scored on a 38-yard run to start the game, but the PAT was missed. The Panthers did answer with a score to take a short-lived lead, but would soon be shut down. With Alba-Golden leading 7-6, Brown scored again on an 8-yard run and quarterback Jake Petty hit Austin Walden for the 2-point conversion to bring the score to 14-7 at the half.

On the second possession of the third quarter Brown went 60 yards for his third touchdown of the game. The PAT was missed.

The game was capped off when senior lineman Daryl Guernsey, listed on the roster at 275 pounds, was inserted in the backfield and scored on a 1-yard run. Casey Romans kicked the PAT to make the final score 27-7.

The Trojan defense played well with junior free safety Putter Potts picking off two passes and senior Jonathan Heer recovering two fumbles.

Petty went seven-of-12 for 91 yards in his first start at quarterback, while Brown finished with 220 yards on 22 carries and three touchdowns, and Petty had 29 yards on seven carries. Miles Parker had 24 yards on four carries and Guernsey had two carries for two yards and a touchdown.

Adam Fite was the team's leading receiver with three receptions for 46 yards, Brown had two catches for 33 yards, and Walden had two catches for 12 yards. He also had a 2-point conversion.

The Trojans host Rockwall Christian next Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
