Playoff opponent is set for the North Hopkins Lady Panthers
From Staff Reports

April 29, 2005 - BIRTHRIGHT - The North Hopkins Lady Panthers have their opponent set for the bi-district round of the Class A state playoffs and it is a familiar opponent in the Bland Lady Tigers.

"The last time we played Bland this season they beat us 8-5, but I didn't have Laci due to an injury," the coach said. "This time should be different because Laci is pitching really well right now and as soon as we can get three of our players done with track we should be in good shape for the playoffs."

The two teams will meet Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Quinlan High School with a trip to the area round of the playoffs next weekend.

The Lady Panthers needed a playoff against Simms James Bowie to decide the No. 2 seed in district 14-A and picked up the 9-1 win last Tuesday night in Mount Pleasant.

Coach Jim Westbrook's team (16-9) finished behind Rivercrest in the district standings, as the Lady Rebels went undefeated in district play this season.

In their warm-up game against the Celeste Lady Blue Devils, Laci Palmer pitched a complete game five-hitter while striking out six batters in a 3-2 win over the Celeste Lady Blue Devils. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate in the game.

North Hopkins won the game in the top of the seventh inning on an infield grounder by Meagan Baxter that scored Ashley Wilson for the win.

Wilson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Baxter went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Teammates Ashley Hooten, Kati Williams, and Chancey Harber each had a hit.

Giles took the loss for Celeste with a complete game nine-hitter with three strikeouts and one walk in the game.
