Wildcat tennis finishes in second place at district tournament
From Staff Reports

April 15, 2005 - MOUNT PLEASANT - Sulphur Springs took third and fourth places overall in three of the four divisions at the District 12-4A tennis tournament, which concluded Thursday, but didn't have any playback opportunities for second.

In all three of the divisions in which Sulphur Springs had a third-place team or individual, Texas High had the top two and worked it out so that there was no way for SSHS to get into a playback situation for second.

The top two finishers in each division qualified for the Class 4A, Region II tournament in two weeks.

SSHS finished as runner-up at the district meet to Texas High.

Sulphur Springs teammates played each other for third place in three classifications Thursday morning.

In girls singles, Tara Moore edged out her teammate Cynthia Sanchez, 7-5, 6-4, for third.

In girls doubles, it was Aly Jackson and Lauren Longino beating Kendall Smith and Morgan McCormack in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0. In boys doubles, the team of Brant Small and Luke Panter won third by defeating Paul Pattberg and Landon McCaig, 6-2, 6-2.

"All the kids played well in the tournament," said SSHS head coach Susan Reynolds. "We would have liked to have had the opportunity for a playback, but it didn't work out that way.

"I'm proud of the way the kids competed and played against some tough competition during the entire tournament."
