Miller Grove wins district opener

Sept. 22, 2004 - YANTIS - Friday night's District 19-A volleyball action between the Miller Grove Lady Hornets and the Yantis Owls went to a deciding fifth game Tuesday night.

Miller Grove pulled out the win by scores of 25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 21-25 and 15-7 to go to 1-0 on the district season.

"We came out strong then gave too much slack in the third and fourth games, but we finished them off in the fifth game, " Miller Grove coach Sara Garmon said.

Natalie Bailey led the scoring attack for the Lady Hornets with 12 points including two aces and five kills.

Leslie Wagley had 11 points with three aces and 18 assists, while Hayli Gannon and Callie Smith had nine points each with two aces respectively.

"I am proud of our girls for playing hard and not giving up," Garmon said. "This was a big win for us, and we are ready for the rest of district now."
