Hollenshead, Thomas finish 1-2 for second week

Sept. 13, 2004 - TYLER - Kate Hollenshead and Sabra Thomas finished 1-2 for the second straight week as North Hopkins finished third in the team standings at the Robert E. Lee Invitational cross country meet on Saturday.

Hollenshead ran the two-mile course in 12 minutes, 26 seconds to win the Class 1A-3A division. She was just three seconds ahead of teammate Sabra Thomas, who was runner-up.

Both Hollenshead and Thomas were members of the North Hopkins state championship cross country team last fall and qualified for the state track meet in the spring.

Jessi Mannis was the third NH runner, coming in 26th in a time of 13:35, while Sara Weir was 57th in 14:37, and Ebbonye Johnson was 77th in 14:56. Rounding out the North Hopkins team were Katy Williams in 15:00 and Kara Mannis in 15:34.

Overall, Greenhill won the meet with 52 points, while Eustace was second with 87 and North Hopkins third with 163.


In the JV division, the Lady Panthers were second overall with 117 points. Cayla Newkirk was the top NH finisher by coming in seventh with a time of 15:03, and earning a medal by finishing in the top 10.

Leia Butler finished 11th in 15:19, Chancey Harber was 19th in 15:48, Hannah Martel came in 39th in 16:55, and Megan Lehr was 41st in 16:57.


North Hopkins will host a meet at the South Sulphur Unit at Cooper Lake State Park on Saturday.

The meet will start at 8:15 a.m. with a one-mile youth fun run for kids in grades 3-4 and 5-6. The junior high girls and boys will run their two-mile course at 9 a.m. and 9:20, followed by the JV girls and boys at 9:40 and 10 a.m.

The varsity girls will begin at 10:20 a.m., with the varsity boys at 10:40 a.m.

Cost for spectators is $2 per person (children under 12 get in free), which is admission to the park.
