SSHS JV wins WP consolation

Sept. 8, 2004 - The Sulphur Springs junior varsity volleyball team won the consolation bracket at the Wills Point Tournament last weekend, and then beat Chisum in two straight games Tuesday to increase their record to 7-5.

Against Chisum, the Lady Cats won by scores of 25-19, 25-18, as Laura Ream scored a team-high 12 service points to go with six aces. She also led the team with six assists and added two kills.

Brittany Moore added two kills and two assists, while Tarra Morton contributed four points and a kill, and Jordan Anderson had two kills also. Whitney Rogers scored six points and had a kill, while Erica Russell and Brandi Laine had five points each. Laine also added three assists.

Wills Point Tournament

In the tournament, the Lady Cats lost to Rains in the opening round of bracket play, 17-25, 20-25, despite a three-kill game from Russell and a two-kill, 13-point match from Ream.

Moore also added two kills, while Kaylee Cotten scored three points. Ream had four assists, and Laine added two.

In their next match, a 25-16, 16-25, 25-16 win over Van, Moore had a team-high five kills to go with five points. Colbie Cross led the team in service points with 11 including four aces. Ream added four kills and five assists, while Laine had nine points and a team-high seven assists.

Cotten scored four points, and Rogers added five.

In the consolation championship, the Lady Cats beat Gladewater, 25-13, 23-25, 25-15, behind a combined nine kills from Moore (five) and Darla Dickson (four). Ream contributed three kills, nine assists and seven points, while Rogers added nine points and Laine had five points and four assists.

Morton, Katie McCarty, Cross and Anderson all had one kill. Cross also contributed eight points.
