NH boys, girls both win meets

Sept. 7, 2004 - The North Hopkins boys and girls both won their cross country meets on Saturday, with several of the runners earning individual medals as well.

GIRLS

PLANO - Kate Hollenshead and Sabra Thomas finished 1-2 at the Plano Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, leading the top-ranked North Hopkins girls team to a slim win over Greenhill Academy.

North Hopkins finished the two-mile race at Bob Woodruff Park with 49 points to Greenhill's 51.

Hollenshead ran the course in 12 minutes, 38 seconds, finishing three seconds ahead of her teammate Thomas. Jessi Mannis came in ninth in 13:03 and Ebbonye Johnson was 12th in 13:18, as all four runners earned medals for finishing in the top 20 individually.

Rosa Fuentes barely missed out, finishing in 25th place in 14:07, while Kara Mannis was 46th in 15:08.

The Lady Panthers beat out a field of 10 teams.

Three JV girls ran as medalists, with Leia Butler finishing in eighth place in the junior varsity division with a time of 15:43. Megan Lear was 13th in 16:32, and Hannah Martel was 25th in 18:04.

BOYS

AVERY - Adam Vitro, Pedro Gonzales and Raul Delgado all finished in the top eight at the Red River Invitational, leading the Panthers to the team championship.

Vitro ran the 3-mile course in 16 minutes, 47 seconds to earn fourth place individually. Gonzales finished in sixth at 16:48, and Delgado was eighth in 17:24. Rounding out the top five were Jake Cockrum, 20th in 18:00, and Tito Fuentes, 28th in 18:48.

Nick Tamsma finished 33rd in 19:00, and Travis Tatum was 50th in 20:17.

The Panthers totaled 66 points to win the 10-team event. McLeod was second with 77 points and Atlanta third with 96.
