Familiarity between SSHS and Forney

Sept. 1, 2004 - There will be a familiarity between the Sulphur Springs Wildcats and the Forney Jackrabbits on Friday even though the two teams have never met before on the football field.

SSHS head football coach Brad Turner coached at Forney from 1991 to 1995, at the same time Wildcat assistant coaches Kyle Abshire and Josh Ragsdale were underclassmen playing football there.

Forney, moving up in classification from 3A to 4A this year, is in Kaufman County south of Rockwall.

No SSMS Games - The Sulphur Springs Middle School eighth-grade will not have games this week because Forney's middle school is playing in the Mesquite league. Coaches hope to make it up by lining up a game during the previously-scheduled open date on Sept. 16.

The junior varsity and freshmen games this week will be played at Forney due to the unplayable condition of the field at Gerald Prim Stadium.

Ducats For Sale - Single game tickets for Friday's game went on sale today at the SSHS office. They will remain on sale until noon Friday.

Intramurals For Seventh Grade - Football will not be the only sport in which SSMS athletes play intramurally. All seventh-grade sports excluding track and field will be intramural-only this year.

The switch is being made to give all the athletes in football, volleyball and basketball one year of playing before teams have to start making cuts.
