Bulldogs score 21 unanswered points to outscore Clarksville

Oct. 9, 2004 - COOPER - The Cooper Bulldogs scored 21 straight points in the final two periods to overcome a 10-point deficit en route to a 27-16 win over the Clarksville Tigers on Friday.

Both teams came into the game with 2-0 records in District 16-2A.

The Bulldogs emerged with a 3-0 district mark (5-1 overall) as quarterback Randee Nichols connected twice with wide receiver Daniel Nichols for two touchdowns, and Keiston Morris returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown with less than a minute remaining.

Clarksville took a overcame a 6-3 halftime deficit by scoring twice in the third period on a pair of TD passes from quarterback Jonathan Morgan, who finished 23-of-34 for 280 yards, but was picked off three times.

Then the Bulldogs, who scored in the second period on a 5-yard pass from Lewis to Nichols, started their comeback. Lewis tossed a 41-yard scoring pass to Dewaylon Williams and then came back with a 17-yard TD pass to Nichols in the fourth quarter.

Lewis ended the game 14-of-22 for 199 yards and one interception. His favorite target was Nichols, who caught nine passes for 93 yards.

Defensively, Colt Pederson had a team-high 14 tackles and an interception, Aaron Eaton added 14 tackles, Morris had 11 stops to go along with his interception, and Ryan Jones contributed nine tackles and a fumble recovery.
