NH girls take third at highly-competitive McNeil Invitational

Oct. 4, 2004 - The North Hopkins girls placed third at the highly-competitive McNeil Invitational cross country meet in Round Rock on Saturday, while closer to home, several county schools took part in the Pepsi Challenge meet at Lake Bob Sandlin.

North Hopkins' Kate Hollenshead placed third at the McNeil Invitational, which was run in wet, muddy conditions at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, the site of the state meet.

She ran the two-mile course in 12 minutes, 55.95 seconds. It was the first time in five meets that she did not win the individual title. Two runners from Giddings placed first and second, leading their team to the overall championship.

North Hopkins finished in third with 210 points, behind Giddings (140) and Bridge City (204).

NH's Sabra Thomas also finished in the top 10, placing eighth with a time of 13:11.15.

At Lake Bob Sandlin, Como-Pickton had runners in four different divisions, with the Lady Eagle JV winning the team title in the junior varsity category.

In the JV division, C-P's Bethanie Stinson won the individual title with a time of 12:14, followed by Aeron Green in third at 14:02, and Samantha Jones in fifth at 14:12. Cortney Thompson placed 10th in a time of 15:40, and Rebecca Humphrey was 15th in 16:08. All of the girls received a medal.

North Hopkins' Sharla Horne placed 11th individually in a time of 15:47.

In the JV boys division, two C-P runners placed in the top 10 as Tony Mercado came in fifth in the 3.1-mile run in a time of 20:52 and Alex Mowat was 10th in 21:15. Jonathan Garrett placed 17th with a clocking of 23:29, and Anthone Low finished in 26:43.

In the junior high girls division, C-P's Lindsey Watkins placed eighth in a time of 14:10, and Magan Low finished in 20:19.

In the junior high boys, North Hopkins placed second at the meet, paced by a second-place individual finish by Jose Cadena in 11:02. Lannzo Rivera was sixth in 11:44, Erick Perez was 11th in 12:03, and Colton Boyd was 21st in 12:45. Also running for the Panthers were Juan Delgado (13:41), Eric Martin (14:15), Colt Baxter (14:26), Dylon Horne (15:06) and Patrick Gold (17:19).

The Como-Pickton junior high was represented by Dylan Mowat, who finished in a time of 14:00.
