Northcutt named All-Regional at multi-state meet

Nov. 29, 2004 - Sulphur Springs sophomore Graham Northcutt placed 22nd Saturday at the 26th Annual Footlocker Cross Country South Regionals, competing against more than 200 10th-grade runners from 14 states at Charlotte, N.C.

SSHS senior Wilson Jones and sophomore Kasie Carrell also competed at the meet in their respective age divisions.

Northcutt finished the 3.1-mile race in 16 minutes, 36 seconds, and earned a medal, which was awarded to the top 24 runners in each division. Competing were high school runners from 14 southern states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Michael Anderson of Williston, Fla., won the sophomore race in 15:55, while the overall winner in the seeded division was Andrew Brumbalough, a senior from Brentwood, Tenn., in a new course record of 14:32.

Carrell finished the 5K race in 18:37, and Jones came in 18:18. All three SSHS runners were part of the regional qualifying team earlier this month.
