Seven Lady Bears land on All-District squad

Nov. 26, 2004 - Sulphur Bluff landed seven girls on the All-District 18-A volleyball team, including the Co-Most Valuable Players.

The Lady Bears went through the 18-A schedule unbeaten, and first-year head coach Jarret Wilson was rewarded as the district's Coach of the Year,

Senior middle blocker Ashley Pettit and setter Jill Jaggers were named Co-MVPs of the district after leading the Lady Bears to a 21-3 record and an 18-A championship.

Junior outside hitter Jennifer McDonald was a First Team selection, while juniors Kaylee Phillips and Tara Williams were named to the second team. Seniors Jami Jaye and Courtney Mitchell were both Honorable Mention picks.

The district's Setter of the Year was Avery senior Autumn Westbrook, and Avery, the 18-A runner-up, had the Offensive MVP, junior Alysha Varley, and the Defensive MVP, senior Candace Baird.

Detroit senior Kenda Covey was the Blocker of the Year, and James Bowie sophomore Mollie Sheerer was voted the Newcomer of the Year.

Other All-District players included:

First Team - Raychel Thomas, Sr., Avery; Christi Watson, Sr., Avery; Carmen Williams, Jr., Detroit; Shanthanie Williams, Jr., Avery.

Second Team - Brittney Amos, Sr., Avery; Kristina Finney, Sr., James Bowie; Lauren Hunt, Jr., Avery; Misty Patt, Jr., Detroit.

Honorable Mention - Amanda Lee, Jr., Detroit; Olivia Sides, Jr., Avery; Jessica Zacarias, Sr., James Bowie.
