Yantis sweeps three from ETCA

Nov. 17, 2004 - Yantis swept a triple header from East Texas Christian Academy on Tuesday, Saltillo split a pair of games with Avery, and the North Hopkins boys broke a third-quarter tie to beat Miller Grove in the teams' first outing.

BOYS

Yantis 75, ETCA 39

Colby Ogle scored 20 points and Lupe Garcia added 14 for the Yantis Owls as they opened with a blowout win.

All 12 players for the Owls scored points, including Jeremy Hurley with seven points, and Patrick McKinney, David Gonyea and Jarrett Russell with six points each.

MILLER GROVE - Tied at 42-42 entering the fourth quarter, the Panthers held Miller Grove to eight points over the final quarter.

Brandon Glosup led the Panthers with 20 points, six rebounds and three blocks, while Kevin Campbell added 15 points and six rebounds. Zack Horne recorded eight points, five assists and four steals.

Miller Grove had three players in double figures: Ronny Darrow with 13 points, Lee Roy Sparks with 11 and Bob Schoenly with 10.

SALTILLO - Down by a point entering the fourth quarter, Avery outscored Saltillo, 20-18, in the final period to take the one-point victory.

Miles Payne led the Lions with 18 points including a pair of treys in the fourth quarter to go with three assists. Micah Payne added 12 points and two steals, and Kris Wilson contributed 10 points and a team-high five rebounds.

Avery was led by E. Cortez with 16 points. He had eight points in the fourth quarter and hit three treys in the game.

Yantis teammates Robbin Allen and Sarah Collins each recorded a double-double Tuesday. Allen ended the game with 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Collins collected 14 points and 12 boards to go along with six steals and six assists.

Falon Honea added nine points and three steals, and Christina Bean collected eight boards for the Lady Owls. Janna Bevill scored two points to go with five rebounds and two steals.

SALTILLO - The Lady Lions held Avery to just a pair of free throws in the third quarter to turn a nine-point halftime lead into a 27-point advantage entering the final period.

Saltillo led, 27-18, at half and outscored Avery, 20-2, over the next eight minutes.

Cassie Hailey recorded 17 points and six rebounds to lead the Lady Lions (2-0), while Chloe Roberts added 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Kassie Tully added eight points and Jenny Prather scored nine. Winter Stevens grabbed six rebounds to go with eight points.
