Nov. 15, 2004 - It doesn't get any easier once you get to the playoffs.
The Sulphur Springs Wildcats will take their 9-2 record into the second round of the Class 4A, Division II playoffs on Saturday when they play Dallas Lincoln (9-1). The game is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at SMU's Ford Stadium.
Lincoln, the District 10-4A champion, is coming off a 48-7 bi-district win over Lake Dallas. Sulphur Springs beat Terrell, 38-34, on Friday to advance to the area round.
Lincoln posted five consecutive shutouts this season and has allowed just 13 points in the last seven weeks. During that span, the Tigers have also scored an average of 49 points per game.
Their lone loss came Sept. 10 against Denton Ryan, 30-7, and a scheduled game on Oct. 1 against Highland Park was canceled due to weather.
...Tickets for the game go on sale tomorrow at Sulphur Springs High School for $5 for students, $7 for adults. All tickets at the gate will be $8. ...A pep rally is scheduled in the SSHS gym for 3 p.m. Friday. ...Ford Stadium is on the campus at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. ...The Wildcats will be the visiting team. ...The winner of the SSHS-Lincoln game will play the winner between Corsicana (10-1) and Brownwood (6-5).
...In Friday's win over Terrell, a key fourth-quarter blocked punt should have been credited to Brian Shurtleff, his second block of the season. ...John Hall's game-ending interception was his second pick of the year.
In other District 11-4A playoff games, North Lamar was outscored by Wylie, 51-37, in the Division II bracket, while Texas High held off Highland Park, 28-25, in Division I. ...Texas High (9-2) will take on Dallas Hillcrest at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tyler's Rose Stadium.
