Lady Trojans fall to Avery

Nov. 13, 2004 - CUMBY - The Cumby Lady Trojans opened up the 2004-05 season on a sour note Friday night with a 31-23 loss to the Avery Lady Bulldogs.

Coach Brent Moseley's team falls to 0-1 on the season and will get ready to travel to Ector Tuesday night with junior varsity action starting at 4:30 p.m.

The first quarter was a low scoring affair for both teams as neither teams could get any shots to fall with Avery up 5-3 heading into the second quarter.

Avery held a 19-7 lead going into halftime before Cumby was able to cut the Lady Bulldogs lead to seven late in the fourth quarter at 30-23.

Mary Ugalde led the Lady Trojans with 12 points, followed by teammate Meagan Strickland with five points, and teammate Christina Chambliss added four points in the loss.

Avery had nine points from Tasha McCarty and Shanthanie Williams respectively in the win.
