Nov. 13, 2004 - GREENVILLE - The Cooper Bulldogs scored almost as many points on defense as they did on offense in smacking Gunter, 49-14, in Class 2A, Division II bi-distrction action on Friday at T.A. "Cotton" Ford Stadium.

Cooper's Tommy Daugherty returned both a fumble and an interception 80 yards for touchdowns, and Kolt Pedersen had an 89-yard fumble return for a TD, also, as the Bulldogs got out to a 49-0 lead before Gunter scored.

Cooper running back Dewaylon Williams reached 1,000 yards exactly for the season as he ran 104 yards on 11 carries and three first-half touchdowns. The Bulldogs' other TD came on a 36-yard strike from Randee Lewis to Daniel Nichols.

Gunter actually out-gained Cooper, 458 total yards to 314, but committed five turnovers - three interceptions and two lost fumbles.

Gunter's Tanner Harris led all ground gainers with 162 yards on 29 carries.

Pederson spearheaded the Cooper defense with 15 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception, while Daugherty had two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

The Bulldogs (9-2) advance to the area round where they will face Prosper at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Forrester Field in Dallas.
