March 31, 2004 -- QUITMAN -- Brittney Wright, Kellie Harmon and Taylor Moss combined for eight runs and each had three hits and a stolen base, while Charlot Harper added a triple and three RBIs, as Como-Pickton shutout Quitman 9-0 Tuesday.
Christy Hunt (8-3) went the distance for the Lady Eagles (10-3, 6-1 District 13-2A), giving up only three hits and striking out four.
CPHS would waste no time in getting on the scoreboard, leading off the game with four straight hits from Elizabeth Melton, Moss, Wright and Harmon. Wright drove in Melton and Moss with an RBI triple and scored on Harmon's single. Chelsea Harrison reached on an error, while Katheryn Humphrey drove in Harmon with a fielder's choice.
Moss singled on a drag bunt in the third inning, with Wright and Harmon reaching on errors. Harper cleared the bases with her second triple in as many games and driving in two of her three RBIs.
Harmon doubled in the fifth, advanced on a fielder's choice and scored on Humphrey's single. Wright, Harmon and Humphrey all reached base in the seventh, and Harper drove in Wright with an RBI grounder to second for her third RBI of the night.
The Lady Eagles played sound defense, including the seventh inning, when Quitman tried to get a rally started. Moss caught a line drive and gunned a runner out at first for a double play.
The win sets up a showdown Friday against Grand Saline, ranked No. 8 in the state. The battle will be for first place in district, and CPHS won the first meeting 6-2.

North Hopkins 8, Detroit 6
BIRTHRIGHT -- Megan Baxter got two hits, while Chancey Harber had a game-winning triple in the fifth inning, as North Hopkins improved to 2-0 in district 11-A play with a win over Detroit.
Hanna Hankins, Hope Harber and Ashley Wilson each added hits for the Lady Panthers (5-8), while Wilson had four assists and two put outs at second base.
Lacie Palmer scattered 10 hits and five runs, while walking one and striking out seven for the complete-game win.
