Saltillo wins set up showdown with NH

March 30, 2004 -- AVERY -- Saltillo set up a showdown with North Hopkins on Wednesday by keeping their district record unblemished with Monday's victory.

Senior center fielder Colin Garmon hammered his seventh homerun of the season while going 2-for-3 with a double. Brandon White also went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles.

Travis Thompson pitched the Lions (4-0 in district) to the win by striking out 10 and giving up just two hits in five innings.

The Lions host North Hopkins (4-1) at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in a make-up of a rain out.

Cumby 14, Yantis 1

Cumby's Kasidy Huddleston pitched a complete-game four-hitter on the mound and went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs at the plate to lead the Lady Trojans to Friday's win.

Huddleston struck out seven and walked two. Her sister, Katy Huddleston, added two hits and knocked in three runs, while Amber Hammons had a double and RBI for Cumby (3-3 overall, 2-1 in district). The Lady Trojans' next game is 4:30 p.m. Friday at Miller Grove.

"We played well tonight, on both ends," said coach Jason Wallen. "Our bats are starting to roll, and we aren't making as many errors on the defensive end. Kasidy is pitching well and we hope to keep it going."

Yantis fell to 0-3 overall, 0-2 in district.
