|Opening ceremonies offering chili, auction|

March 27, 2004 -- Opening ceremonies for the Hopkins County Boys Baseball Association will include more than just a parade of teams this year.
The activities, which are planned to begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 3, in the Civic Center Rodeo Arena, will include food, fun activities for children, a live auction and a silent auction, said league president Jerry Burton.
Players will also be selling $1 tickets for the opportunity to win a family vacation to Disneyland in California, valued at $2,500.
Tickets to the chili supper and auction are $5 each and can be purchased from any HCBBA player.
Some of the silent auction items include Lone Star Park tickets, gift certificats, floral arrangements, beauty baskets and more.
Live auction items are Sea World vacation package, Dallas Mavericks tickets, Frisco RoughRiders package, Texas Rangers tickets, a day in Dallas pacakge, Shreveport weekend package, golf packages and more.
The family of the late Russell Mannon will throw out the first pitch, and the season will be played in memory of Mannon with players wearing a patch on their arm. The Fall Ball program, which will be in its second year, will also be named the Russell Mannon Fall Ball League.
Schedule of activities for Saturday are:
3:30 p.m. -- Teams line up at the east end of the Rodeo Arena.
4 p.m. -- Opening Ceremonies begin.
5 p.m. -- Chili supper starts (all players receive a free hot dog).
6 p.m. -- Fun games begin such as home run whiffle ball derby, basketball shoot, football throw, obstacle course, bounce tents, hair coloring, bicycle door prize, tattoos and other games.
6 p.m. -- Silent auction begins.
7 p.m. -- Live auction begins.
