March 27, 2004 -- Sophomore Katie Williams and senior Michael James each averaged a double-double for their North Hopkins teams this season, and those accomplishments didn't go unnoticed.

Williams and James were both voted to the Class 1A All-State Second Team by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, and they were two of five Hopkins County players to be named All-Region.

The honorary teams were released earlier this week after voting by the state's high school coaches.

In addition to the All-State honor, James was a First Team pick for the Class 1A, Region III squad after averaging 17 points and 13 rebounds per game this season. He was Co-MVP of the district as well.

Williams was a First Team selection for the Class 1A, Region III team. Joining her on the First Team was Sulphur Bluff junior Ashley Pettit, who helped the Lady Bears to a state quarterfinal berth. On the Second Team was North Hopkins junior Sara Weir, who led the Lady Panthers in scoring and shared the district MVP honor with Williams.

Sulphur Springs senior Brandi Crouch, the Lady Cats' top scorer, 3-point shooter, assist and steals leader, was a Second Team All-Region II pick in Class 4A after being named the district Offensive MVP.
