|SSHS boys finish second in rain-shortened tournament|
|From Staff Reports|
March 12, 2004 -- PARIS -- The Sulphur Springs boys golfers finished in second-place, one stroke behind Texas High, in a rain-shortened tournament hosted by North Lamar on Thursday.
Wildcat golfers shot a 160 over nine holes -- putting them on pace to card a 320, the same score they had in the tournament they hosted the previous week.
"Considering the conditions, I was really pleased with our score," said SSHS head coach Doug Evans. "If we had been able to shoot the same on the back nine, I think we all would have been happy with another 320."
The entire tournament was played in rain and high winds, and when water started standing on the greens, the tourney was called after all golfers had completed nine holes.
Sulphur Springs got another fine effort from freshman Dustin Gideon and sophomore Seth Northcutt, who both shot 38s. They tied for second with Justin Kendrick of Pleasant Grove, who took second place outright on a scorecard playoff. Gideon was third and Northcutt fourth in the medalist standings.
Northcutt had birdied two of the last three holes when play was called.
Senior Caleb Beck continued his strong play with a 40, good enough for sixth place, while senior Hutton Harris shot a 44 and sophomore Sam Dolan a 48.
Overall, Wildcat golfers finished one stroke behind Texas High's 159 total. Paris was third at 167.
