JV Blue takes two from Rockwall
From Staff Reports

March 12, 2004 -- Sulphur Springs JV Blue team, made up of freshman girls, beat Rockwall's JV squad, composed of ninth-11th graders, Tuesday in a doubleheader by scores of 2-1 and 7-4.

In the opener, Sulphur Springs got a single and a double from Brittany Moore en route to a six-hit attack, and used the one-hit pitching performance from Kay Lee Cotten.

Cotten also had a single, as did Kristen McDonald, Rhyannon Page and Katie McCarty. On the mound, Cotten struck out nine and walked one in six innings.

In the nightcap, Moore started the game on the mound and got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the first inning by inducing three straight balls back to the mound. She finished with four walks and seven hits in four innings. Cotten closed the game.

McDonald, Jordan Anderson and Whitnie Mitchell all had doubles. Kara Lopez led the team with a double and single. Also with hits were Cotten, Moore and McCarty.

Coach Rick Cook said he was pleased with the team's hitting in both games. They next play in Frisco at 5 p.m. Friday.
