Turner's two golds pace SSHS JV track

March 5, 2004 -- MESQUITE -- Freshman Logan Turner won two gold medals and a silver, and teammate Brandon Clayton took home another first place finish Saturday as the Sulphur Springs JV squad won their division of the Ben Robertson Relays.

Turner won the 110-meter hurdles and the 300 hurdles and took second in the high jump, while Clayton won the triple jump and was third in the long jump.

The Wildcats were second in both the sprint and 800-meter relays, and distance runner Gerard Yanez was third in the 3,200-meter run.

Three Wildcats placed in the 300 hurdles as Turner won in a time of 45.36, Chris Young was second (46.66) and Jonathan Young sixth (51.1). Turner finished first in the 110 hurdles in 17.32 seconds, followed by Bailey Potts in fourth at 18.71.

Turner was also second in the high jump with a leap of 5-2.

Clayton won the triple jump at 38-6, followed by Tyler Rhoades, who was fourth at 35-4. The pair teamed with Clay Wilks and Jermaine Wright to take second in the 800 relay at 1:39.0. Clayton and Rhoades also ran the 1,600 relay with Orian Runyan and Jeffrey Pitts, finishing fourth in 3:35.6.

Clayton was also third in the long jump with a best of 18-5. He, Pitts, Colby Mills and Jermaine Wright teamed up to place second in the 400 relay (47.46), while the foursome of Yanez, Kasie Carrell, K.C. Smith and Josh Pierce were fifth in the 4x800 relay in a time of 10:43.9.

Yanez was third in the 3,200 with a clocking of 11:57.9, and Carrell was sixth at 12:36.6.

Colt Hooten was sixth in the shot with a throw of 36-2.5, and Turner was sixth in the discus at 97-8.
