|Lady Cats blank MP, 2-0|

March 5, 2004 -- Sulphur Springs blew by Mount Pleasant in a chilly, windy night as the Lady Cats defeated the Lady Tigers 2-0 Tuesday at Sam Parker Field in Mount Pleasant.
The Lady Tigers couldn't get by the quickness of the Lady Cats as Sulphur Springs were able to race back on defense and prevent any serious scoring chances for the Lady Tigers. Ashley Petty scored both goals for the Lady Cats in the win as Sulphur Springs moves into first place pending the North Lamar-Texas High matchup tonight.
Petty scored her first goal with 28:24 as she kicked the ball 30 yards away from the goal and beat a diving Stephanie Thomas at the right side of the net.
The Lady Cats continued to put pressure in the Lady Tigers' end of the field.
Petty almost scored her second goal of the half, but her shot was saved by Thomas with about 20 minutes left in the half. Thomas had seven saves in the loss for Mount Pleasant.
At the end of the half, Sulphur Springs outshot Mount Pleasant 6-1.
Mount Pleasant came close to tying the game as Cristina Sandival's direct kick from 20 yards out hit the cross bar and was kicked away by Sulphur Springs defenders with 24:09 left in the game.
Petty scored her second seven minutes later as she kicked in a cross pass from Gayle Grand-Lienard for a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Cats were able to keep the ball away from their own end of the field and run out the clock. Sulphur Springs outshot the Lady Tigers 6-3 in the second half.
