Northcutt, Akerhielm take firsts at Milk Run

June 14, 2004 -- A freshman in high school won the 5K Milk Run on Saturday, with a college standout taking the women's title.

Graham Northcutt, who will be starting his sophomore year at Sulphur Springs High School, finished seven seconds ahead of his former teammate, Tyler Tyndell, to win the Milk Run in 17 minutes, 5 seconds. There were 108 runners entered in the event.

Tyndell, who will be a junior at Paris after transferring there this spring, was second in 17:12. Reuben Gomaz was third overall in 18:18.

For the women, former North Hopkins state champion and current Texas Tech standout Tracie Akerhielm finished first in 18:59, about 3 1/2 minutes ahead of second place Tracie Garrett (22:23) and Jolene Ochoa (23:34).

Timothy Isaly was the top masters male, finishing in 20:39, while Stacy Riggs was the first overall masters female with a time of 27:58.
