Diamondbacks advance to state playoff

July 24, 2004 - GRAND PRAIRIE--The Hopkins County 9-10-year old Diamondbacks advanced to the next round of the playoffs and a possible trip to the World Series pulling off a 13-10 victory over the Grand Prairie Red's Friday night at C.P. Waggoner Park.

The Diamondbacks are now the North champions after winning game two during championship weekend. Grand Prairie picked up a 3-0 win over Hopkins County Thursday night.

With the win, Hopkins County will play Nacogdoches, winner of the south championship July 30 at C.P. Waggoner in game one of the best two out of three series for a trip to Alambama.

Game two and three, if necessary, will be played at the Dr. Pepper Stadium in Arlington with game two starting at 9 a.m. July 31.

Hopkins County took an early 6-0 lead after one inning of play, but after that the action went back and forth throughout the contest.

Taylor Perez, Jenner Jackson, and Corbin Flora eached pitched two innings in the contest for the local team.

Leading hitters for the Diamondbacks were Blake Chester with a double and a single, Jackson with a double and a single, Garrett Womack had two singles, and Kaylon Alexander had a double.

Also, Connor Cooper had a double, Collin Williams smacked a triple in the game, Dusty Abner and Jordan McLarry ended with a single respectively.

The Diamondbacks are coached by Phil Jackson, Jerry Barnett, and Mike Flora.
