|Hurricanes fall short in district championship|

July 9, 2004 -- After four games in a five-day stretch, the Hopkins County Hurricanes found out what it meant to be one and done Thursday night at Coleman Park.
After three innings of two hit baseball, Austin Garrison gave up a three-run home run to Mount Vernon's Colten Kenner to send the All-Stars to the state tournament in Grand Prairie with a 4-0 win in the Dixie Youth Majors tournament.
Mount Vernon went 3-0 in the tournament with wins over the Hopkins County Longhorns and Terrell, while the Hurricanes were eliminated from the tournament going 2-2 during the five day tournament.
Kellan Carrell took the win on the mound for the All-Stars pitching a complete game two-hitter. He also gave up four walks and struckout five in the game.
Garrison took the loss for coach Mike Garrison's Hurricanes giving up four hits, eight strikeouts, three earned runs, and one walk in the ballgame.
Zachary Bean scored the first run of the game for the All-Stars on a throwing error by Hopkins County catcher Mason Ybarbo when he attempted to pick off Bean from third base.
The Hurricanes could not get anything going against Carrell in the ballgame as the first four hitters went 0-8 against the Mount Vernon pitcher.
Hopkins County received base hits from Ybarbo and Donnie Rodriguez in the fourth inning, but left both runners stranded when Mike DeLeon grounded-out to end the inning.
Ybarbo and Rodriguez each went 1-for-2 with a single in the game for the Hurricanes.
Kenner went 2-for-2 with a home run and a single for the All-Stars. The home run was the first of the tournament for Kenner, while his brother Colby went 1-for-2 with a single and a run scored.
Bean and Jerrod Doss each went 1-for-1 with a single in the game for Mount Vernon.
Hopkins County dominated in the stolen base department getting six stolen base compared to two for the All-Stars in the contest.
