From Staff Reports

July 6, 2004 -- High school All-Star festivities for three Sulphur Springs participants will conclude this week with the Texas Girls Coaches Association softball and basketball games in Fort Worth.

Melissa McSheffery, a 2004 graduate of SSHS, and head coach John McCullough will both be taking part in tonight's TGCA All-Star Softball Game at the Birdville ISD field in North Richland Hills.

On Thursday, 2004 SSHS graduate Brandi Crouch will be playing in the TGCA All-Star Basketball Game at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on the TCU campus.

Both girls were picked to represent the East team in the 4A-5A contests. McCullough was also asked to be assistant coach for the East team, which has been practicing the last two days.

"It's a pleasure to be coaching 15 of the best girls in the state," McCullough said. "It's exciting for me, and Melissa is excited to be here."

McSheffery is expected to be the starting third baseman for the East team, coached by R.D. Moore of LaPorte.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. tonight, following the 1A-2A-3A game, which will start at 4:30 p.m.

McSheffery, who has signed to play softball for St. Edwards University in Austin, was the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in District 11-4A as a senior, the district MVP as a junior and the Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore.

Crouch, the 11-4A Offensive MVP as a senior, will play point guard for the East team in Thursday's contest. It is scheduled to tip-off at 8 pm., following the small-school game at 6 p.m. at Daniel Meyer.

Crouch has signed to play next year at McLennan County Community College in Waco.
