McLeod ties game on last-second shot, wins in OT

Feb. 27, 2004 -- MOUNT PLEASANT -- North Hopkins was seconds away from advancing to the area round of the playoffs, when disaster struck Tuesday night.

McLeod's Jaylon Stevens put back a missed 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime, and McLeod outscored the Panthers 14-6 in the extra frame to escape with a 69-61 bi-district win in the Class 1A, Division I playoffs.

Stevens finished with a game-high 23 points including three 3-pointers. Mickey Whatley had 15 points and Devin Washington 14 for MHS.

North Hopkins senior Michael James ended his career with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Cory Johnson had 13 points before fouling out, while seniors William Johnson and Jake Mannis added 12 and nine points respectively.

Mannis also had eight rebounds, four assists and two steals, and William Johnson had five assists and two thefts.

McLeod held a 33-28 rebounding advantage.
