NH girls start season the same way they finished it
From Staff Reports

August 30, 2004 - DALLAS - The North Hopkins girls started the 2004 cross country season just like they ended 2003 - with a championship.

Class A state champions last season, the Lady Panthers outdistanced the field Saturday in the Greenhill Six-Mile Relay at Norback Park, winning the Class 3 and Under division by more than a minute.

The relay featured four girls, each running 1 1/2 miles. For North Hopkins, it was Ebbonye Johnson (10 minutes, 31 seconds), Rosa Fuentes (10:32), Sabra Thomas (10:18) and Kate Hollenshead (10:07), completing the course in 41:44.1

After the first runner, the NH girls were in 12th place, and Fuentes pulled them up to sixth. Then, Thomas overtook the other runners to give Hollenshead the lead for the final leg.

All four of the girls ran on the 2003 state championship team, and Johnson, Thomas and Hollenshead all scored points at the state track meet last spring.

The North Hopkins girls are ranked No. 1 in Class A again this year by the Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas' preseason rankings. The Lady Panthers are scheduled to run next Saturday at the Plano Invitational at Bob Woodruff Park in Plano, while the NH boys will travel to Avery for the Red River Invitational.
