Lady Bears stay unbeaten, win tourney

August 24, 2004 - ROXTON - Sulphur Bluff stayed unbeaten at 6-0 by claiming the championship of the Seventh Annual Roxton Volleyball Tournament on Saturday in a three-game win over North Hopkins.

In the championship match, Sulphur Bluff prevailed, 25-23, 25-15, 25-18 as Ashley Pettit and Jennifer McDonald each had six kills. Pettit also recorded a team-high eight digs and three blocks, while McDonald had five digs, a block and two aces.

Jill Jaggers led the team in assists with 10 and added two kills and a block. Kaylee Phillips contributed three kills, six digs and two aces, and Tanya Thompson added three assists, four digs and two aces.

In the Lady Bears' 25-23, 25-11 second-round victory over Avery, McDonald had a team-high eight kills, and Pettit added six kills and three digs. Jaggers contributed a team-high 10 assists to go with one kills, and Phillips and Tara Williams added three digs each.

In the opening round of the tournament, Sulphur Bluff notched a 25-15, 25-17 victory over Roxton behind a six-kill, four-dig match from Pettit and a 10-assist game from Jaggers. McDonald added four kills and two digs,while Phillips had a team-high three aces to go with two digs.

Williams came up with five digs, and Thompson added a pair of aces.
